ThePulp.Net: Your link to the online world of the pulp magazines!

ThePulp.Net is a fan-produced Web site devoted to the pulp magazines of the 1890s through the 1950s. Contributions, suggestions and comments are always welcomed.

ThePulp.Net staff, equipped with the latest technology, works hard to keep the site’s pages updated.

ThePulp.Net debuted March 26, 1996, as .Pulp on America Online. Its initial concept was for a Web site devoted to The Shadow. But that changed.

In mid-1995, we found it difficult to track down Web sites about pulp magazines. You had to search Yahoo (there wasn’t a Google then) and otherwise just surf the Net looking for pulp-related sites. Out of that frustration grew the seed for ThePulp.Net.

.Pulp started with links pages to Web sites devoted to The Shadow, Doc Savage and The Spider and a page to other pulp-related sites, plus a brief history of the pulps that was originally published in 1979.

In July 1998, ThePulp.Net got its own domain name and really began to grow.

Over the past decade, we’ve added:

  • PulpWiki, the online encyclopedia for pulp magazines, which can be updated and added to by you, the TPN readers.
  • Pulp.Blogs, a listing of Web logs focusing on the pulps, including TPN’s first, Yellowed Perils.
  • Pulp.Files, a bibliography of pulp-related books and articles.
  • Pulp.Sources, links to dealers of pulps and pulp-related materials.
  • Pulp.Forum, for discussions between pulp fans (Pulp.Forum was recently extensively renovated).
  • Pulp Gumshoe, the Net’s first search engine devoted to the pulps, which searches over 11,000 pulp-related Web pages.
  • Pulp.Stuff, exclusive stuff to accent your interests in the pulps.
  • Pulp.History, which in addition to the previously mention history of the pulps, includes photos of pulp racks and addresses for pulp sites.
  • Pulp.Memories, young and old fans reminiscence about discovering the pulps.
  • alt.pulp FAQ, a list of frequently asked questions pertaining to the alt.pulp newsgroup.

Other features have come and gone, but still reside, at TPN, such as:

  • The Pulp Companion, a Web zine with articles and items relating to the pulps or of interest to pulp fans. (The Pulp Companion is on hiatus, and new editions may yet return.)
  • Pulp.Polls, for regular polls of pulp questions. (The revamped Pulp.Forum now allows anyone to post polls.)
  • Pulp.Gatherings, a listing of gatherings of pulp fans. (This feature has been folded into the revamped Pulp.Forum.)

In addition to turning 10 years old in 2006, ThePulp.Net celebrated another milestone. TPN surpassed 500,000 visitors in January 2006. (We hope it won't take another 10 years to reach 1-million.)

ThePulp.Net was created to help you, the pulp fan, increase your enjoyment of the pulp magazines. So, as mentioned above, if you’d care to contribute or offer suggestions or comments, please do.
