Podcasting a Shadow

You need to reset the date on your iPod from 2007 to the 1930s.

Thanks to Renaissance Men Ventures, you can subscribe to New Vintage Radio Podcast. The podcast, which is available via iTunes Store or RMV’s Web site, has a daily feed Monday through Saturday.

For pulp fans, each Thursday brings an episode of the vintage radio program The Shadow. Last week’s episode was “Silent Avenger” from March 13, 1938.

Other dramas include Superman (on Monday), Sherlock Holmes (Tuesday), Dragnet (Wednesday) and Radio City Playhouse (Friday). The week’s schedule ends with a Fireside Chat by Franklin D. Roosevelt on Saturday.

Unfortunately, you can’t subscribe to just one or two of the programs. You must subscribe to the entire week’s programming. You can, though, choose to download only the particular episodes that you’re interested in at the iTunes Store. That will save download time, depending on your Internet connection, and hard disk space.

Of course, you don’t necessarily need an iPod. You can listen to the podcasts on your computer with iTunes, or manually load them on a digital music player that handles the MP3 format.
