In The Bloodshot Eye, a blog on the website of Memphis, Tenn., newspaper Commercial Appeal, John Beifuss addresses the pros and cons of Memphisian Craig Brewer writing and directing it.

The same concerns Beifuss addresses in his blog post would, I think, apply to any pulp-inspired movie, say, a Doc Savage one. It’s worth a read.
