ThePulp.Net reborn

I don’t often write about ThePulp.Net since TPN really isn’t the focus of Yellowed Perils. But I’m going to today.

As you’ve probably noticed (particularly since Yellowed Perils has a new web location at ThePulp.Net) that things are a bit different at TPN. We’ve moved from a document-driven website to a database-driven one. I hope it will benefit you, the pulp community.

Without going into details of the inner workings behind TPN, suffice it to say, I’m hoping the new website will better call attention to all of the exciting content available at ThePulp.Net and make it easier for the site to be kept up-to-date.

As I mentioned over on a post on TPN’s Facebook page earlier, there are still a number of rough edges — incomplete pages, coding mistakes (such as some internal links) that need to be fixed and a few more pages that need to be added. Most everything that used to be at ThePulp.Net is or will be back soon, but in different locations.

I apologize if the redesign has messed up your bookmarks. We’ll try to keep things fixed in place now for a while.

There are a couple of major changes that I should point out.

First, the alt.pulp FAQ, which has resided at ThePulp.Net since around 1997, is no longer a separate area. Much of the content has been incorporated into the PulpWiki (which you, too, can contribute to and update — you just need to create a log-in). I’m still pondering what to do with a couple of pages from the FAQ.

Next, the Pulp.Forum bulletin board is no more. It was moderately popular when we first introduced it about 10 years ago. But with the growth and popularity of the pulp groups over at Yahoo Groups, there was really no more need for the Pulp.Forum.

The PulpGumshoe, the pulp-centric search engine, will return once we get the coding reformatted for the new site.

In the meantime, if you’re looking for something on ThePulp.Net and can’t find it, use the search box at the top right of each page or mouse over the “About TPN” menu at the top and select “TPN site map” for a complete listing of pages on the main TPN site.

I hope you find the “new” ThePulp.Net useful. As always, please feel free to send in suggestions or comments (or post a comment below). We’re always glad to hear them.
