Great Pulp Art Pulps

‘Uncanny Tales’ (November 1939)

What more could you want from this classic SF cover from Uncanny Tales?

You’ve got a pair of green-skinned aliens, a scantily clad woman in distress and a blaster-firing hero climbing into the ship. What an action-packed cover and a fine example of Great Pulp Art.

Uncanny Tales (November 1939)

This is the third of five Uncanny Tales published by Marvel Comics’ founder Martin Goodman‘s Red Circle Magazines (aka Manvis Publications). Uncanny Tales began as Star Detective in May 1935. The magazine gave way to the Uncanny Tales name with the April/May 1939 number.

Uncanny Tales ended its run with its May 1940 number.

In November 1940, a Canadian pulp picked up the Uncanny Tales moniker, though it was unrelated to the previous magazine. (The Canadian pulp was published by Adam Publishing Co., and later by Norman Book Co.)

J.W. Scott painted this and the other four Uncanny Tales covers.

Who wouldn’t want to pick up this issue at the newsstand?
