Movies/TV/Radio Pulp History Pulps

The pop culture archaeologist

The first episode of Jeff ShanksPop Culture Archaeology video blog debuted on Sept. 1.

Though the title, “Origin of the Comic Con,” may not sound like a something I’d write about here at Yellowed Perils, it turns out that the episode has quite a lot to do with the pulps.

It runs just under 12 minutes, but Jeff keeps things moving along, and it’s over before you want it to be. Watch for yourself below, or click over to Jeff’s YouTube channel.

Jeff says he wants to post a new episode each month. He’s planning a look at 1950s, ’60s and ’70s comic-book influences on the “Guardians of the Galaxy” movie for his next installment. Then he’ll survey the history of zombies (a tie-in with his book, “Zombies From the Pulps“) after that.

So, stay tuned!
