Pulp AdventureCon returns to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for the third time on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017. At the same time, it kicks off a new year of pulp conventions, which typically culminates with November’s original Pulp AdventureCon in New Jersey.

I’ve been lucky to attend the past two Florida gatherings, but due to scheduling conflicts, I sadly won’t be in Fort Lauderdale this year. A couple of our Florida contingent of Southern Pulpsters — Jeff Shanks and Mark Maddox — will be there. I’m hoping that I will be able to join them agian next year.

The seven-and-a-half-hour drive gave us plenty of time to talk, and for Jeff to respond to questions posted on a Kickstarter campaign. He’s working with Modiphius to produce a roleplaying game based on Robert E. Howard‘s Conan.

A rundown of pulp shows for 2016

Updated: April 28, 2016.

The first pulp show of the year is less than two weeks away.

Pulp AdventureCon kicks things off on Saturday, Feb. 20, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and will probably close out the pulp show year on Saturday, Nov. 5, in New Jersey. But in between there are plenty of pulp shows, conventions and events for you to get involved.

In addition to the events listed below, the Gotham Pulp Collectors Club meets the third Saturday of each month at a Manhattan library. The meetings are free, and usually last a few hours before members often adjourning to a nearby spot for coffee and more pulp talk. Check the group’s website for details.

Here in Tallahassee, Fla., we’ve organized a chapter of the Southern Pulpsters group. While we haven’t set regular meetings, we try to get together every couple of months for dinner and to talk about pulps (and popular culture). The group has grown to about eight members over the past year.

Pulp AdventureCon report

Pulp AdventureCon got a good start with its first event in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Saturday, Feb. 21.

Rich Harvey has been holding a Pulp AdventureCon in Bordertown, N.J., for the past 15 years, and after moving to the Fort Lauderdale area in 2014 decided to give it a shot down there. (Don’t worry, he will continue running Pulp AdventureCon in Bordertown; there will be two now each year.)
